Programme description
- The bachelor’s programme ‘Laws (with Advanced Studies of the Chinese Language and the Law of the PRC) is unique in the present-day educational space. Students study not only Russian law but also Chinese legal system and the Chinese language
- St Petersburg University cooperates with leading Chinese law schools, including Jilin University and China University of Politics and Law. This allows for regular participation of Chinese professors in the educational process through guest lectures
- The teaching staff use advanced teaching methods including information technology, case studies, role plays, and business games
- The programme trains lawyers who are competitive both in the Russian and international labour markets. They are equipped with the necessary professional skills, including cultural and linguistic competences, to work in various areas of cooperation with the People's Republic of China. The graduates' professional activity is determined by their competence both in the field of business networking and in other areas, as well as by their understanding of the fundamentals of the Chinese legal system in general and of the particular branches of law directly related to regulation of the appropriate relations
- Additional qualification ‘Translator/Interpreter’ enables students to communicate effectively with Chinese partners and analyse of PRC legislation in its original language

He served as a seconded legal expert to the Registry of the European Court of Human Rights (Strasbourg, France). He is a frequent speaker at international conferences in Russia and abroad, including the People’s Republic of China

Our advantages
- The academic programme is unique in the present-day educational space in that it gives an opportunity for students to study not only Russian law but also China and its legal system.
- The programme uses a comprehensive (interdisciplinary) approach to developing its content. It combines teaching all the legal disciplines necessary for professional work with an in-depth study of foreign languages, including Chinese.
- The teaching staff use advanced teaching methods including information technology, case studies, role plays, and business games, original teaching materials on PRC law (‘Law of the People’s Republic of China: Theoretical and Legal Aspects’, Fundamentals of Commercial Law in the PRC).
- The programme has been designed and is implemented by St Petersburg University independently. It involves cooperation with partners from the People’s Republic of China, including: Peking University; China University of Political Science and Law; Shanghai University of Political Science and Law; and Jilin University to name just a few.
- Practical training is held at the Legal Clinic of St Petersburg University.
- Graduates of the bachelor’s programmes speak English at a level of proficiency comparable to the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- The academic programme has been designed taking into account the views of employers on the correlation of graduates' competencies and job functions in their professional activities.
