Programme description
  • The master’s programme "Graphic Design", implemented at St Petersburg University, provides exceptional opportunities for training graphic designers in the context of professional interdisciplinary relations
  • Uniquely designed teaching techniques of profession-oriented courses at the master’s level provide training of multiskilled environmental designers. They are capable of performing projects in different design fields such as: print design; multimedia design; branding; art design; and museum design
  • The main areas of research and project activities of the master’s students are related to: the study of contemporary issues in visual communication and development of integrated graphic concepts and multimedia projects for St Petersburg University, the Mariinsky Theatre, and urban and international social and cultural events; and the development of design projects for social innovation and sustainable development as part of the themes of the DESIS design laboratory
  • The programme focuses on a scientific and applied approach, with practical implementation of the research results 
  • An important part of the programme are creative workshops and master classes, expertise on existing and planned facilities, publications and public presentations on current trends in the field

  • The degree programme "Graphic Design" trains designers with an in-depth theoretical knowledge of graphic design. They are based on advanced innovative methods and ways of scientific knowledge and are capable not only of practical creative activities in their chosen field of design, but also of research activities both in graphic design and in related fields of art
  • The teaching staff are the leading St Petersburg artists and specialists in the field of design graphics. They are members of: the Union of Artists and the Union of Designers of Russia; the International Association of Art Historians; and other Russian and international associations

Career opportunities

Training involves research practice, during which the undergraduates conduct project research on their thesis topic and get acquainted with the activities of leading organisations within the programme profile.

The graduates from the programme are prepared for successful professional activity in: publishing houses and printing firms; advertising agencies and PR-companies; in the field of mass media; in design and architectural bureaus; and in public authorities.
