The undergraduate programme "History of the Caucasus (Armenia)" aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of political, economic, social, cultural, ethnic, demographic, religious, linguistic, and other aspects of Caucasian countries development, with particular focus on Armenia. The curriculum includes in-depth study of Armenian and Persian languages, and Georgian as an elective.
Upon completing the programme graduates will be awarded two diplomas of St Petersburg University: a higher education diploma and a professional retraining diploma ("Translator/Interpreter").
- Donara Mkrtchyan — PhD in Philology, Associate Professor at the Department of Central Asia and Caucasus Studies. Professor Mkrtchyan teaches Modern Armenian (phonetics, grammar, and conversation), Armenian Literature courses, and an option course on Armenian poetry
- Vasilisa Kagirova — PhD in Philology, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Central Asia and Caucasus Studies. V. Kagirova specialises in linguistics and teaches Modern Armenian, Classical Armenian (Grabar), Georgian, as well as courses on Caucasus Geography, Caucasian Historiography and Source Studies, Literature of Caucasian Peoples, Caucasian Cultural Heritage Sites, Caucasus Historical Geography and Geopolitics of Caucasus
- Diana Kiknadze — PhD in History, Associate Professor at the Department of Central Asia and Caucasus Studies. Professor Kinadze teaches Modern Georgian, History of Georgian Literature, and History and Ethnography of the South Caucasus
- Ekaterina Bolashenkova — Senior Lecturer at the Department of Central Asia and Caucasus Studies. She teaches Modern Persian and option courses on history and cultural history
- Programme is aimed to train specialists with professional skills (including cultural and linguistic competencies tailored to the programme) for research, analytical, managerial, communication and translation activities in the field of Oriental studies
- Students of the programme will be awarded the additional qualification of "Translator/Interpreter" that significantly expands the graduate’s professional competencies and enhances their employability
- Extensive language training (Armenian, Persian, Georgian)
- Students of the programme will also study additional European language (German, French or specialised English (for orientalists))
- Unique electronic resources in Russian, Eastern, and Western languages, as well as access to the specialised collection of the M. Gorky Scientific Library of SPbU, that includes: over 300,000 academic, educational, literary, and periodical books in all languages of the regions studied at SPbU, a collection of ancient manuscripts and woodblock printed texts, rare and unique books and lithographs.
- Students of the programme will gain an opportunity to apply for studies in one of the graduate’s programmes at the Faculty of Asian and African Studies
