SPbU students became participants in the model of the UN Security Council meeting
At the second seminar of the G.O.R.K.I. Centre SPbU «The Israeli-Palestinian Tragedy: An Introduction to a History of Wars» students and young professionals had an opportunity to try themselves in the role of representatives of the participating countries at the UN Security Council meeting.

During the lecture part of the seminar, participants discussed the situation around the escalating conflict, which originated almost simultaneously with the United Nations. Professor Karin Kneissl, Head of the G.O.R.K.I Centre SPbU, as well as guest speakers Professor Stanislav Tkachenko and Associate Professor Denis Golubev told the students about the most important aspects of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, which had and still have a decisive impact on the crisis situation.
The lectures from the distinguished speakers were extremely useful for both the audience and the participants of the «G.O.R.K.I. mock», a simulation of a multilateral conference in the format of a «UN Security Council Meeting on the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict», which took place on the second day of the seminar programme. At the event, students tried on the characters of representatives of countries interested in resolving this conflict. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Egypt to the Russian Federation Nazih El Naggary took part as special guests, as well as Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, who joined the discussion via video link.
The model session on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and ways to resolve it was rich and productive. At the end of the event, participants shook hands, expressing their hope that similar meetings would be repeated in the future. Each participant of the business game was presented with unique commemorative certificates. As the results of the seminar showed, such a format attracts students from a wide range of educational areas and becomes a platform for exchange of opinions, as well as allows them to gain valuable experience.
