Applied Mathematics and Computer Science in Problems of Medical Diagnosis

01.04.02 In russian

Level of education Master

Type of instruction Full-time

Duration 2 years

Programme description
  • The programme is designed to train master’s students who will be engaged in research and practical activities and apply mathematical methods, and information and digital technologies in various fields of medicine and medical diagnosis
  • The academic programme is interdisciplinary and it is at the intersection of computer science, digital technology and mathematics. During training, students study various disciplines, including: mathematical and computer modelling techniques for advanced medical diagnosis; state-of-the-art medical data processing software; fundamentals of tomographic reconstruction, 3D visualisation, and intelligent analysis of medical data; decision support systems in medicine; and Big Data and their processing. They also study the software development process
Main courses
  • Mathematical Modelling in Medicine and Biology
  • Mathematical and Computer Modelling in Nuclear Medicine
  • Tomographic Reconstruction
  • Three-Dimensional Visualisation In Medicine
  • Methods of Pattern Recognition
  • Statistical Analysis of Medical and Biological Data
  • Software Development Process
  • Standards of Creating, Storing, Transmitting and Visualisation of Medical Images
  • History and Methodology of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science
  • Medical Decision Support Systems
  • Big Data and Their Processing
  • Telemedicine
  • Digital Imaging in Medicine
  • Data Mining in Medicine
Our advantages
  • The programme combines fundamental mathematical training with the study of state-of-the-art digital and information technologies. It is designed to train master’s students who will be engaged in practical activities in applying mathematical methods and digital technologies in medicine
  • Students receive fundamental knowledge of mathematical modelling and computer technology. This makes it possible for them to develop, analyse and use mathematical models of processes and objects to solve problems in the field of medical diagnosis
  • Specialised software for data processing in nuclear medicine and radiation therapy is used in the training process
  • The programme is implemented using innovative approaches and technologies
  • The training also involves: interaction with other Russian academic and research centres and with medical clinics and diagnostic centres; development of regional, federal and international academic ties; participation in Russian and international scientific, educational and cultural programmes in the main areas of activity
Main areas of research
  • Mathematical modelling in medical diagnosis
  • Modelling the indicator transport in the body
  • Single-photon emission computed tomography
  • Positron emission tomography
  • Tomographic reconstruction
  • Data mining
  • 3D imaging of tomographic data
  • Digital image processing
  • Developing software for processing medical data
