St Petersburg School of Literary Translation

Programme description
  • The master’s programme "St Petersburg School of Literary Translation" is designed to train experts in in literary (fiction, journalism, popular science) translation and editing texts in leading European languages (Russian, English, Spanish, German, and French), taking into account the norms of literary language, and the system of functional styles
  • During training, students master the professional skills of: translators of fiction and specialised literature; editors-in-chief; editors and proofreaders; book PR managers; and experts in foreign literary rights. Students also receive in-depth knowledge of: translation theory; the history of foreign literature; foreign languages; and the Russian language
  • Students also acquire skills in editing texts intended for publication and qualified evaluation of the quality of translation. Within the programme curriculum, students learn how to overcome barriers between different eras, cultures, traditions and mentalities while translating different texts
  • Graduates have the opportunity to work both creatively as translators and writers, and in top management in large publishing holdings. Additionally, they can carry out research and teaching activities
  • While studying in the programme, students will regularly participate in workshops and seminars. They will also meet with editors-in-chief of well-known publishing houses and media, general directors of publishing houses and current translators. That will undoubtedly open the way to a colourful career
