Programme description

The programme is designed to prepare qualified personnel with a broad profile in the fields of intercultural and interlingual communication, translation, teaching of Slavic languages, including Russian as a foreign language to speakers of related Slavic languages.

The programme is unique in its combination of theoretical training in the history and current state of Slavic languages, as well as Slavic and Russian literature, with specialised disciplines in teaching Russian as a foreign language to speakers of Slavic languages, ensuring students’ practical immersion in the professional field. Graduates will have an excellent command of several foreign languages, extensive knowledge of the culture of the respective languages and regions, and a strong foundation in linguistics and humanities. They will be fully prepared to work in general education institutions, supplementary education organisations for school-aged learners, and foreign language courses.

Graduates of the programme will be able to apply their knowledge in the following fields: teaching in various educational institutions, translation work, editorial work in publishing houses, museum work, library science and other fields of the humanities.

Upon completing the programme, graduates will be awarded two diplomas of St Petersburg University: a higher education diploma and a professional retraining diploma (‘Teacher of the Russian language and literature’).
