Student Initiatives

Only the most committed applicants from different cities of Russia and other countries enter St Petersburg University. Each of them can find support at the University for their initiatives to make the world around us a better place to live in. To this end, you can contact the Student Council or administrative staff of the University. What have the University students already done?

Ecology

Many of the University students are committed to an environmentally conscious lifestyle. They help preserve the environment and rational use of resources – not only in word, but also in deed.

The University students regularly take part in community clean-ups to keep clean and tidy the Botanical Garden of St Petersburg University and the city: the coast of the Gulf of Finland, embankment of the Smolenka River, and others. Additionally, they take part in tree planting events on the territory of the University and beyond.

Volunteering and donation

The University students and staff are active people. They are unselfish and ready to help others. For example, the University students collect toys for orphanages; hold performances and workshops for children with cancer; visit veterans of World War Two; and provide comprehensive assistance to those who really need it. Yet social volunteering is not the only focus. The University students participate in various major events. Among them are: St Petersburg International Economic Forum; St Petersburg International Legal Forum; and St Petersburg International Cultural Forum to name but a few. The University students also help spend holidays at St Petersburg University, engage in helping international students adapt to the life in Russia, and can get experience in using a foreign language and in cross-cultural communication.

Donor days are regularly held at the University. They are usually organised several times a semester. Each time, from 30 to 60 students and staff of the University take part in these events and each of them donates 350-450 ml of blood to save someone's life.

Each year, over 5,000 students take part in the sports competitions at the University. The University collaborates with the Rugby Union of St Petersburg, Union of Grass Hockey of the Russian Federation, Climbing Union of St Petersburg, and Rowing Centre.
