Dedication of SPbU students
St Petersburg University will be holding a ceremony for Freshmen Day.
The event will consist of two parts. As tradition, performance of the Russian national anthem by SPbU choir and firing of the cannon from the bastion of Peter and Paul Fortress will herald the start of the ceremony for first-year students. The ceremony will take place near the Twelve Collegia building in front of monument to Sergey Uvarov, Minister of Public Education of the Russian Empire. The first-year students who have received the highest score during the entrance examinations will take the student oath, then, Nikolay Kropachev, Rector of St Petersburg University and Corresponding Member of the RAS, and guests of honour will personally give student ID cards to the first-year students.
From early morning in the gallery of the building on 5 Mendeleevskaya Line, for students will be held a Student fair, which is intended to introduce extracurricular and student life our University. The museums, the Gorky Library, the Publishing House as well as social, scientific, sports and creative student organisations will introduce to new students their activities.

10:30 am — The beginning of the Fair
12:00 noon — Ceremony for dedication of SPbU students:
- the firing of the Petropavlovskaya fortress cannon
- welcoming speech by Nikolay Kropachev, Rector of St Petersburg University, and speeches by guests of honour
- flying the flags of the Russian Federation, St Petersburg and St Petersburg University
- presenting student ID cards to the best first-year students
- the oath to become part of the University brotherhood (the text is read by the Chair of the SPbU Student Council and the best first-year students)
- the student ‘Gaudeamus Igitur’ hymn performed by the St Petersburg University Choir of students
