Exhibition celebrating Vernadsky’s 160th anniversary
SPbU will host the exhibition dedicated to Vernadsky’s 160th anniversary.
The exhibition is part of the joint project "Places associated with Vernadsky" in cooperation with the non-governmental Vernadsky Environmental Foundation. The Foundation invited the Russian Association of Plein Air Artists to participate in the project. Throughout 2022 and 2023, the artists created a series of artworks based on significant places in Vernadsky’s life. Some of the paintings depict views and interiors of SPbU, where Vernadsky worked for a short time, as well as those exhibits of the SPbU Mineralogical Museum, with which the scientist had a chance to work closely. Following the exhibition, the Vernadsky Foundation and the Association of Plein Air Artists plan to gift the paintings and drawings featuring the University to SPbU.
The SPbU Russian Chemical Society library will host the opening ceremony of the exhibition consisting of the artworks described above, as well as a ceremony of donation of the paintings to SPbU. After the ceremony, attendees of the event may visit the SPbU Mineralogical Museum, where the esteemed scientist worked, and attend a lecture on Vernadsky’s life and scientific achievements.
