Online exhibition "I am grateful to the Main Pedagogical Institute for my development".
It focuses on the story of Dmitri Mendeleev, about his attitude to the Main Pedagogical Institute, the views of the scientist on the training of future teachers, and its importance for the development of the country.
Dmitri Mendeleev wrote: ‘... until the 1860s there was the Main Pedagogical Institute in St Petersburg, which was appointed exclusively for the training of teachers. It justified its mission because it gave Russia many mentors, some of whom are still active today as scientists, professors, trustees of educational districts, directors of gymnasiums and teachers. If I mention that among the pupils of this Institute are considered ... many ..., well-known figures of Russian education, it will become obvious that this institution fulfilled its mission. Being its pupil myself (my father, a former director of the gymnasium, also studied at the Pedagogical Institute), I know that the Main Pedagogical Institute provided everything that was necessary for this.’
