The Image of Heaven on Earth: The Ancient Egyptian Temple as a Historical and Cultural Phenomenon
St Petersburg University and its Representative Office in Barcelona invite you to the online lecture "The Image of Heaven on Earth: The Ancient Egyptian Temple as a Historical and Cultural Phenomenon". The lecture will be delivered by Arkadii Demidchik, Professor in the Department of History of the Ancient East Countries at St Petersburg University and Professor in the Department of General History at Novosibirsk State University, Honoured Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation.
During this lecture, we will talk about the evolution of the sanctuaries of the Ancient Egyptian gods in the historical and cultural context of the development of the ancient civilisation of the Nile Valley. We will learn about different circumstances that led to the construction of iconic temples of the New Kingdom of Egypt, such as the Karnak Temple Complex and the Luxor Temple. We will also learn to identify the uniqueness of the ancient Egyptian temple concept. The lecture will be supported by unique visual aids.
Arkadii Demidchik is the author of more than a hundred Egyptological publications in different countries including Australia, Austria, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, and France. He has given public lectures at the University of Pennsylvania, Emory University and the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts. He is also the author of the chapters on the history and culture of Ancient Egypt in the Russian Historical Encyclopaedia. In anthologies of Ancient Egyptian literature published at Yale University, London and Oxford, Professor Demidchik’s English-language publications are included in "selected bibliographies".
The lecture will be held as part of the events to mark the 300th anniversary of St Petersburg University, the oldest university in Russia.
The meeting will be held online in Russian with simultaneous interpreting into Spanish.
