India in my heart
The Diaghilev Museum of Modern Art at St Petersburg University will hold the 5th international exhibition of the traveling art project "India in my heart".
In 2023, the regional public organisation INRUCS-Indian Russian Cultural Society organises events to mark three anniversaries: 75 years of India’s independence; 55 years of sister city relations between the cities of St Petersburg and Mumbai; and 550 years of the legendary campaign of Afanasy Nikitin to India. The exhibitions have become international and reflect the interest of artists from Russia and other countries in the perception of Indian culture and the realities of this influential friendly country.
Twenty two artists take part in the exhibition. Mostly, the artists are the members of the St Petersburg Union of Artists. Among them are also: one representative from Kazan; one representative from Yemen; and two representatives from India. In total, the exhibition presents 40 works.
Most of the works were painted en plein air in India. Some of them were created as impressions of trips to India. The exhibition features paintings in different materials and techniques: canvas and oil; canvas and acrylic; watercolour; mixed media; paper and markers; and art photography.
The vernissage will mark the two most important holidays of our countries: International Women’s Day on 8 March, which is traditionally widely celebrated in Russia, and Holi, the festival of colours, which symbolises spring in India and is celebrated everywhere.
We hope that the guests of the exhibition will get an unforgettable experience and plunge into the atmosphere of an Indian holiday with cheerful music, dances and bright films. You can also meet the creators of the paintings presented at the exhibition.
