Lyubov Mendeleeva, Alexander Blok, Andrey Bely: a true story and fables with "The Wife Clothed in the Sun"
The Representative office of Saint Petersburg University in Barcelona continue the series of lectures "The Story of One Love" with an online lecture "Lyubov Mendeleeva, Alexander Blok, Andrey Bely: a true story and fables with "The Wife Clothed in the Sun"". The lecture will be read by Anna Silyunas, theater critic, art critic and director of the Cultural Foundation "Russian House in Barcelona".
Alexander Blok and Andrei Bely had much in common. Both were born in the autumn of 1880 and both were obsessed with a passion for poetry and Lyubov Dmitrievna Mendeleeva - daughter of the famous chemist and creator of the periodic system of elements.
Lyubov Mendeleeva had known Alexander Blok since childhood, the estates of their parents near Moscow - Shakhmatovo and Boblovo - were not far from each other. Young people became close during the rehearsals of Hamlet in an amateur theater: the future poet played the prince and Lyubov Dmitrievna played Ophelia.
The nascent feeling of first love both frightened and delighted the young girl. After all, she - a schoolgirl, a strict, impregnable professor's daughter with a golden braid - did not even think about marriage. Blok was not yet the idol of millions at that time, he would dedicate his famous Stranger and poems about the Beautiful Lady to Lyubov Dmitrievna later. After the wedding of the young in 1903, a cult of Lyubov Dmitrievna arose among Blok's friends as a sublime, pure, immaculate being, absolutely alien to earthly passions. This deification burdened the girl, caused misunderstanding and despair: “You don’t need to kiss my legs and dress in your letters - kiss my lips, as I want to kiss, for a long time, hotly.”
Far more attentive to her was the poet Andrey Bely. The image of a beautiful lady did not in the least prevent him from seeing an earthly woman in Lyubov Dmitrievna and inviting her to be near. They became close, but Mendeleeva could not deceive her husband and told him everything. To which Block replied: "Well, I'm glad." And he invited his wife to decide for herself who she wants to be with.
The meeting will be held online in Russian with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
