Modern art films: "Faust" by Aleksandr Sokurov
St Petersburg Representative Office in Barcelona holds the first lecture of the "Films from Russia: talking of cinematography" series.
The lecture ‘Modern art films: "Faust’ by Aleksandr Sokurov" will be delivered by Lyubov Bugaeva, SPbU Professor, Department of history of Russian literature. Lyubov Bugaeva is the author of Literature and rite de passage (2010), and more than 200 articles on theory and history of literature and cinematography.
In 1960s a phenomenon of art films appears, wherein a director is not only an author, but also is a responsible person for all parts of production — from idea and script to editing and sound.
Works of Aleksandr Sokurov are vivid examples of art films. A. Sokurov took A. Hitler’s, V. Lenin’s and the Japanese Emperor’s authoritarian figures in their life in his tetralogy on power (Moloch, 1999; Taurus, 2001; The Sun, 2005; Faust, 2011), and focused on the moments of minimum power.
The meeting will be held online in Russian with simultaneous interpreting into Spanish.
