Graduate School of Management: 'Mikhailovskaya Dacha' is a world-class university campus in St Petersburg

  • >

On 16 September 2021, Sergey Ivanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Graduate School of Management, and Alexander Beglov, Governor of St Petersburg, visited 'Mikhailovskaya Dacha', the new campus of the Graduate School of Management. The visit was timed to coincide with the launch of new accommodation for the business school's students.

Nine buildings of the residential complex were commissioned in September 2021 to accommodate 600 bachelor’s students of the Graduate School of Management (GSOM) at St Petersburg University. The student accommodation is equipped with modern furnishings and appliances, and multifunctional public spaces for co-working. Housing units are designed to meet all modern standards and requirements, including those for people with limited mobility.

Sergey Ivanov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Graduate School of Management, said: ‘The Graduate School of Management is the leading Russian business school, which holds high positions in prestigious international rankings among the world' top business schools: Financial Times, QS, and The Economist. The conditions created for the students to study and to live now are a source of praise and satisfaction. The Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus meets the highest international standards. The unique combination of history, magnificent architecture, comfort and modern technologies is the perfect environment for preparing future leaders.’

A large-scale project to develop the Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus aims at creating a modern and comfortable environment for training a new generation of managers in Russia. In 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin officially announced the launch of the first educational space in the former Stables Building. The launch of student halls of residence is the next important stage in the development of the Graduate School of Management campus.

The Mikhailovskaya Dacha campus meets the highest international standards. The unique combination of history, magnificent architecture, comfort and modern technologies is the perfect environment for preparing future leaders.

Sergey Ivanov, Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Graduate School of Management

'The GSOM students shall have a world-class campus. The Advisory Board, chaired by Sergey Ivanov, had to solve a lot of problems. It required the combined efforts of the Government of Russia, the business community and the government of St Petersburg. It is a good example of cooperation. These joint efforts made it possible to create a modern campus,' said Alexander Beglov, Governor of St Petersburg.

The Mikhailovskaya Dacha has now become a world-class university campus. The academic building is equipped with hybrid classrooms for full-time and distance learning in a single interactive space as part of the development of a digital learning environment. Demonstrating the technical facilities of the academic building, Rector of St Petersburg University Nikolay Kropachev said: 'Hybrid formats allow for significant expansion of our student’s geography, the invitation of leading scientists from all over the world to deliver lectures online, and facilitation of communication between our researchers and their colleagues abroad.'

The Graduate School of Management is the leading Russian business school established at St Petersburg University, the oldest and the largest scientific, educational and cultural centre in Russia. GSOM ranks among the top 50 business schools in Europe and is a recognised centre for research and education in the field of management. The Advisory Board consists of business professionals, government officials and representatives of the international academic community.

GSOM was included in prestigious international rankings: in September 2021, it was named among the best business schools in the world by two international rankings. It is the only school in Russia represented in the FT Global Masters in Management ranking compiled by the leading business publisher Financial Times: the Master in Management (MiM) programme was ranked 25th among the world’s top 100 master's programmes. Another master's programme of the business school – Master in Business Analytics and Big Data (MiBA) – has become the best programme in Russia according to QS Business Masters Rankings.

Olga Dergunova, Deputy President and Chairman of VTB Bank Management Board and GSOM Director, said: 'The campus of the Graduate School of Management is organised as a green campus, where responsible consumption is the fundamental principle behind the use of all resources. ESG principles are one of the key priorities of the GSOM Development Strategy until 2025, and “responsible leadership” is one of the founding values of the business school. Together with the members of the Advisory Board we introduce the latest technology and high standards to the Graduate School of Management, take pride in the success of the graduates and look forward to seeing the future leaders of our companies.'

The unique environment of the Mikhailovskaya Dacha offers the best conditions for successful education, comfortable work and study. The historic palace and park setting of the 'Mikhailovskaya Dacha' combines tradition, modernity and innovation in a harmonious way and it is the result of the professional approach of the architects and builders. Combined efforts of the federal and regional governments, Board members, faculty, students, alumni, and partners of the GSOM, have transformed the campus into an ideal space to fulfil the mission of the University: to generate knowledge, prepare leaders, and change life for the better.
