The Institute of Medicine as part of St Petersburg University
St Petersburg University has united the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Medical Technologies, the Medical College, and the Centre of Medical Accreditations as one academic and research subdivision.
Andrey Sarana, First Deputy Chairperson of the St Petersburg Health Committee, is appointed Director of the Institute of Medicine.
This step will bring medical education and science at the University to the next level, bringing together representatives of different branches of medicine and healthcare, their research potential, experience, and expertise.
The Institute of Medicine will continue to develop bachelor’s, specialist’s, master’s, doctoral and clinical residency programmes in medicine and the non-university level higher education programmes in medicine. The Institute of Medicine follows high standards in preparing doctors with particular emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches that underpin the university education.
The university system of continuing medical education will also be developed. St Petersburg University offers more than 200 advanced training and retraining programmes. The lecturers are leading experts in their fields. Yet the list of lecturers is constantly updated, responding to the demands of the labour market.
The University will continue to develop laboratories, simulation classes, and accreditation centres to equip students with tangible, practical skills and to ensure applied developments in science.
The Institute of Medicine at St Petersburg University is confident that, as a successor to popular faculties, it will strengthen its position in the higher education system and become the most up-to-date medical higher school, competitive not only in St Petersburg, but also in Russia and beyond.
