The number of applications from international applicants for government-funded places as part of the selection procedure at St Petersburg University increases by 15%
The University has summed up the results of the independent competitive selection of international citizens entering the University to study on a government-funded basis within the quota determined by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation. The competition among foreign citizens to get a degree at St Petersburg University has increased.
In 2023, about 5,700 applications have been received from international applicants as part of the selection procedure at the University. It is almost 15% more than in 2022 and 35% more than in 2021. It is especially important to note the significant increase in the number of applications for master’s programmes. In 2023, the number of applications for the master’s programmes is 40% more than in 2022 and 50% more than in 2021. The applicants are from more than 100 foreign countries, which is 20% more than last year.
It should be noted that foreign citizens can enrol at the University on a government-funded basis as part of an independent selection procedure conducted by St Petersburg University or as part of a selection procedure conducted by foreign institutions of the Russian Federation. In 2023, the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation also holds its competition procedure. According to the results of the 2022 admissions campaign and the information of the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation, St Petersburg University has become the most demanded Russian university among international applicants for the fifth time in a row.
What also stirred interest among international applicants are the following: information meetings throughout the year; online events; St Petersburg University days in foreign countries; intellectual contests; and competitions. Admission of foreign citizens on a fee-paying basis starts from 3 April and will last until 16 June 2023. All documents are accepted in electronic digital form through the Applicant’s Personal Account on the University website.
