Professor of St Petersburg University awarded the Medal of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, First Class
Igor Murin, Head of the Department of Solid State Chemistry, Doctor of Chemistry, Professor, Emeritus Professor of St Petersburg University and Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, has been awarded the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, First Class. The decree awarding the state award was signed by the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
The scientist was awarded the medal for achievements in scientific and teaching activities, training of qualified specialists, and many years of conscientious work.
This award is recognition of the results of my humble work over many years at the University in the wonderful team of my colleagues. The authority of St Petersburg University has also played a big part in winning the award. It is a kind of 'reflected warmth' effect.
Igor Murin, Head of the Department of Solid State Chemistry, Doctor of Chemistry, Professor, Emeritus Professor of St Petersburg University and Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation
For those taking their first steps in science, Igor Murin wished ‘to believe in success, to try to work as hard as possible in their chosen field of knowledge and to take advantage of the chance given to them by the outstanding teaching staff of St Petersburg University.
Igor Murin is a specialist in solid-state chemistry and modern chemical materials science and one of the founders of the new scientific field of solid-state ionics. Professor Murin has developed modern synthesis methods, including soft chemistry methods, superionic conductors, and other solid-phase nanostructured materials with unique functional properties.
Research by the scientist and his students has been supported by grants from: St Petersburg University; the Russian Foundation for Basic Research; the Russian Science Foundation; the International Association for the Promotion of Cooperation with Scientists from the New Independent States of the Former Soviet Union (INTAS); NATO; the Dutch Research Council (NWO); and other organisations.
Professor Murin is the author of more than 300 scientific papers published in leading foreign and Russian scientific journals.
It should be noted that earlier Igor Murin was awarded the Medal of the Order for Merit to the Fatherland, 2nd Class. The scientist is an Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation and Honorary Worker of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation. He was also awarded the University Prize ‘For Scientific Works’ for his two-volume monograph ‘Solid State Ionics’.
