In the 2022/2023 academic year, the Petropolitan Science (Re)Search Open International Olympiad among university students and young professionals has been held for the seventh time.

About two thousand students and graduates from Russia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Guatemala, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Moldova, UAE, Serbia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan took part in the intellectual competitions in 17 areas.

The Petropolitan Science (Re)Search Olympiad has been held at St Petersburg University since 2016. The PS(R)S Olympiad is included in the list of events approved by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education to provide Presidential grants to its winners and awardees. Moreover, diploma winners of the Olympiad are awarded additional points taken into account for admission to master’s and doctoral programmes of St Petersburg University.

The awards ceremony of the Petropolitan Science (Re)Search Olympiad was a highlight that ended the 2022/2023 Olympiad season.

Marina Lavrikova, Senior Vice-Rector for Academic Activities at St Petersburg University, delivered a welcoming address to the participants in the ceremony. She congratulated the winners and awardees, and thanked the teachers and organisers for their methodological and organisational support during the Olympiad.

The Petropolitan Science (Re)Search Olympiad is designed to support the research capabilities of students. Everyone needs research skills, and the better we master them, the more successful we are in our professional activities. I hope that the participants of the Olympiad will be interested in further learning and development, and they will choose the appropriate areas of their master’s and doctoral studies.

The teachers took the stage to give awards to the participants. They congratulated the young scientists and encouraged them to continue their studies and research.

Openness is one of the main principles of an intellectual competition. There are various types of tasks to be solved during the Olympiad. These can be: writing research papers within the chosen area and public presentation of the findings in the format of a report; or solving problems depending on the specifics of the chosen area.

The Petropolitan Science (Re)Search Olympiad is a great way to extend the horizons of your knowledge, increase your confidence and interest in science, and engage in networking with recognised scientists in various fields of science.

Depending on their field of study, the winners and awardees of the PS(R)S Olympiad will be awarded up to 100 additional points for individual achievements when applying to master’s and doctoral programmes of St Petersburg University. In addition, the participants can develop their research and creative capabilities in their professional field by reaching beyond the standard university assignments.

To participate in the Olympiad next year, we recommend you visiting the Olympiad website. There you will find: the details and terms of participation; information of the benefits provided; and video presentations that will help in you during your preparation for the event.
