SPbU delegation visits the People’s Republic of China
Representatives of the SPbU participated in the International Forum of University Rectors of Russia and China and the the Third Sino-Russian Science and Technology Forum in Harbin. SPbU rector Nikolay Kropachev, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, addressed the plenary session of the forum via a video recording.
The SPbU delegation, consisting of Sergey Andryushin, Yuri Petrov, Ruslan Valiev and Valentina Stolyarova, met with the rector of Harbin Institute of Technology, Han Jiecai, to discuss ongoing cooperation. The SPbU delegation conveyed the congratulations of SPbU rector Kropachev on the successful organisation of the forum and agreed to actively support joint research centres and projects. Meetings with delegations from several Chinese universities were held in the margins of the forum. It was agreed with the Vice President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University to sign a co-operation agreement and a student exchange protocol in the near future. The Advisor to the Rector of Shandong University invited the SPbU delegation to visit Shandong Province and expressed his hope to establish cooperation in the field of medicine with the Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technology at SPbU.

The round table "How Russian and Chinese technical universities can play a better and bigger role in the Sino-Russian partnership on comprehensive strategic cooperation" was moderated by Sergey Andryushin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs at SPbU. The round table participants shared their universities’ experiences in developing strategic cooperation between Russia and China in outreach and education. In the evening, the Vice-Rector for International Activities of SPbU met with the first and second year students of the joint Russian-Chinese campus of SPbU and HIT, as well as SPbU educators involved in the implementation of educational programmes. Sergey Andryushin told the students of the joint campus about the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry to SPbU alumnus Alexey Ekimov and expressed the hope that the next, tenth Nobel Prize winner will be a graduate of the joint campus of SPbU and Harbin Institute of Technology. Educational literature published at SPbU was presented to Chinese students at a ceremony following the meeting.
During the working meeting with HIT Vice-Rector Zheng Liang, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and the development of the joint campus, which is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
There was also a meeting with Ding Yi, Head of the International Cooperation Department of Weifang Medical University (Shandong Province) to discuss the possibility of cooperation with the Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies of SPbU, and a meeting with Kun Dan, Chairman of the CITIC Foundation. The development of strategic cooperation between Russian and Chinese organisations was discussed.
During the two days, meetings were held at the Capital Normal University to discuss the development of cooperation between the universities and to summarise the implementation of the joint academic project called «Confucius Institute» in 2022-2023. It was noted that the number of SPbU students studying Chinese has increased tenfold in the last 10-15 years and the number of educational programmes with an element of Chinese studies has reached 90. The parties also agreed to set up a Russian-Chinese translation workshop. The workshop’s activities would include training translators in various fields, from law to artificial intelligence; translating and annotating Russian and Chinese legislative acts; organising training courses for Chinese and Russian language teachers; and other activities related to the promotion of Chinese language and culture in Russia.
