SPbU develops international cooperation with Uzbekistan: development of academic and scientific exchanges
SPbU has hosted a seminar "Modern trends in the development of science and education: problems and prospects", dedicated to the cooperation between St Petersburg University and Navoi State Pedagogical Institute (the Republic of Uzbekistan). During the seminar, historians discussed grant support opportunities for students and development of academic mobility between countries.
SPbU plans to establish its new branch in Tashkent in September 2022.
In the opening speech, Deputy Rector for International Affairs Sergey Andryushin emphasized the special value of scientific cooperation with the Republic of Uzbekistan and Navoi State Pedagogical Institute in particular. ‘Since SPbU is a multidisciplinary university, not only specialists in pedagogical fields of study, but also experts in law, politics, philology are interested in the development of our interuniversity relations,’ said Sergey Andryushin

Ilham Nasridinov, Vice-rector for scientific affairs and innovations, expressed the hope for a new format of relations with St Petersburg University, which involves joint work on the restoration of historical monuments and grant support for students.
Step by step we renew and strengthen old ties with your University, leader in the field of academic historical science. I think that after this meeting we will have an additional impetus for further cooperation.

During the seminar, participants also discussed opportunities offered by the University for students undergoing internships. ‘We have huge potential in terms of methodology and consulting: St Petersburg University specialists have extensive knowledge in working with archives and library collections. In addition, popularisation of scientific knowledge among the international community is important for the University, and our students have an opportunity to publish their articles in journals indexed in both European and Russian databases’, said Denis Yanchenko, SPbU Associate Professor. He also noted that St Petersburg University holds a large number of workshops, discussion platforms and trainings for students. For example, the Second International St. Petersburg Historical Forum will be held this autumn, organised by St Petersburg University.
At the end of the seminar, SPbU Associate Professor Vladimir Shorokhov spoke about opportunities for international cooperation in scientific area offered by St Petersburg University. During the seminar, a project that includes a set of programmes to determine the authorship of a literary monument and create a digital portrait of a writer was presented. Vladimir Shorokhov expressed hope for cooperation with scientists from Uzbekistan for the further development of this programme.
