SPbU professor was awarded a RAS medal for his achievements in the field of chemical and biochemical physics

Today, 2 October, Professor Detlef Bahnemann, Head of the SPbU laboratory "Photocatalysis and Nanotechnology", received an award from the Russian Academy of Sciences. The scholar was awarded the Academician Nikolay Emanuel Medal for his achievements in the field of chemical and biochemical physics.
"I am happy to be among the scientists awarded with the medal named in honour of Nikolay Markovich Emanuel, one of the founding fathers of physico-chemical biology. This achievement of mine is a result of research conducted both in my German home at Leibniz Universität Hannover and in my Russian home at St Petersburg University."
Here at SPbU, Professor Bahnemann is Head of the laboratory "Photocatalysis and Nanotechnology" established in 2014 with the support of a megagrant from the Russian Government. Today, photoactive materials are widely used in such areas as transformation and storage of solar energy and protection from ultraviolet radiation.
To receive such a medal is a great honour for me.

Detlef Bahnemann is also a holder of the Honorary Professor title awarded by a number of scientific and educational institutions in Great Britain, India and China. His academic interests lie in the field of solar energy conversion, heterogeneous photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry, development of new functional nanomaterials and technologies for their application.
The medal "In Memory of Academician N. M. Emanuel" of the Russian Academy of Sciences is awarded annually, starting from 2007. It is awarded to Russian and foreign scientists and institutions to mark their significant contribution to the development of physico-chemical biology, chemical kinetics, biotechnology and biochemical physics. The date of the awarding ceremony is associated with the birthday of Academician Emanuel (1 October).
