SPbU won Battle in Journalism
students Anna Akopian, Daria Klimovskaia, Arina Miftahutdinova, Sabina Nadzhafova, and Maria Polukhtina beat their rivals from all over Russia and won the first place in the professional battle.
The preliminary round of the battle had 23 teams from the universities of Russia, with only several teams from Voronezh, Saratov, Rostov-on-Don, Perm, and St Petersburg reaching the final where the teams had 24 hours to prepare materials about Pavlovsk to publish at the competition’s web-site online.
The Battle in Journalism is an innovation project that aims to bring together education, profession of journalism, and life of ordinary people.
The students in journalism got an insight into how ordinary people live in the cities and towns in Russia. The contestants had to show the life of ordinary people by revealing and possibly solving their social and cultural problems.
Amon the materials prepared by our students are reports on a local voluntary fire brigade, an experimental station that is working to study the meadows in Voronezh region, an invasion of mosquitoes, and an interview with the mayor of the city. The leader of the team was a SPbU’s lecturer Egor Korolev.
As a result, the SPbU’s students have gained recognition from the professional community. The jury was headed by Pavel Gutiontov, a winner of the prize of the Union of Journalists of Russia and prize “The Golden Pen of Russia”, an observer of the newspaper Novaia Gazeta.
The jury consisted of:
- a former editor of special projects in Kommersant Publishing House Artem Galustian
- a radio-journalist and an editor of the Internet mass media Russian Pioneer Elena Zhikhareva
- a TV journalist Pavel Selin
- an editor of the newspaper Moie in Voronezh Vladimir Mazenko
