St Petersburg University and the League of Academic Integrity of Kazakhstan sign a memorandum of understanding
Vladimir Starostenko, Director of the Centre of E-Learning Development at St Petersburg University, and Anastasiia Kovalchuk, Deputy Director — Producer, have visited the M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University. The purpose of the visit was to get introduced to the activities of the League of Academic Integrity of Kazakhstan and develop cooperation in the field of online education. During the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between St Petersburg University and the League to strengthen a long-term mutually beneficial partnership.
As part of their visit to the M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University, the representatives of the University took part in a meeting of the general meeting of the League of Academic Integrity chaired by Sergey Pen, where they managed to get an insight into the experience of their colleagues. At the event, there was a presentation of new digital solutions: the quality assurance office demonstrated the KAZGUU Data Analytics information system, created on the basis of Apache Superset (software for research and data visualisation).
Vladimir Starostenko spoke about the experience of St Petersburg University in creating and using online courses in the teaching and learning process and the features and differences in approaches to creating online products for the external educational platforms Coursera and XuetangX. Anastasiia Kovalchuk made a presentation of the model of interuniversity interaction in a network form and outlined the features and benefits of this format.
In January 2022, as part of the round table of the Association of Leading Universities, Vladimir Starostenko, on behalf of the Rector of St Petersburg University, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Nikolay Kropachev, proposed to establish this professional association in Russia and spoke about the importance of promoting and popularising the principles of academic integrity among students and academic staff. In this regard, the University expressed interest in cooperation with the League of Academic Integrity of Kazakhstan and intention to join the League.
As a result of the visit, St Petersburg University and the League signed a document to: promote the implementation of initiatives and projects to improve the quality of education and e-learning; develop and improve academic standards; and participate in organising joint events to develop a culture of academic integrity and cooperation in the field of introducing new technological solutions.
The League of Academic Integrity is an association of organisations of higher and postgraduate education in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The league’s mission is to improve and enhance the quality of education in the country by promoting and implementing the Ten Fundamental Principles of Academic Integrity. The league council has developed standards for: evaluating student learning outcomes; evaluating journals recommended by the league for publishing research results based on the league’s general criteria; the procedure for monitoring and screening higher education institutions; and organising the educational process on credit technology of education.
