St Petersburg University launches new academic programmes in occupational safety
St Petersburg University has opened degree and non-degree programmes from the Graduate School of Occupational Safety at St Petersburg University. The programmes provide enhancement of a broad range of skills to current students, employees of various enterprises, entrepreneurs and will help military personnel returning from the special military operation to reintegrate into society.
The non-degree programme ‘Risk Oriented Occupational Safety System at an Enterprise’ is intended for those who conduct occupational safety briefings, are obliged to provide first aid to victims, representatives of blue-collar professions, electrical personnel, employees, vehicle managers and other specialists.
Students will receive comprehensive knowledge about the risk-oriented methodology of the occupational safety management system to move away from a reactive approach to a proactive approach to identify hazards and risks to eliminate accidents or incidents. Students are introduced to the current technological, organisational, economic, legal and other opportunities for ensuring workplace safety.
St Petersburg University also offers the programme "Occupational Safety and Health". It is intended to retrain military personnel, demobilised citizens, and those who lost their jobs during the special military operation. Students will be equipped with the competencies to ensure social reintegration and restoration of professional skills and to take part in educational and mentoring activities.
The non-degree programme is intended to improve or gain additional theoretical and practical competencies to learn more about up-to-date methods of solving problems in the field of occupational safety and health. Students are introduced to the basic requirements and legal norms in occupational safety and health. Students will acquire skills in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and using health-saving technologies.
In 2024, St Petersburg University will open admission to the interdisciplinary master’s programme "Occupational Safety Management and Occupational Risks". Today, there is a demand for specialists who can not only calculate production efficiency and manage business processes taking into account resource allocation, but also organise the economic process taking into account a careful and rational attitude towards personnel, capable of bringing the company to a new stage of development. The new programme at St Petersburg University aims to prepare specialists in the field of occupational safety and health who are ready to assess the risks of sustainable development on the issues of the modern ESG agenda (environmental, social and corporate governance) and find adequate solutions at various levels of management, i.e. corporate, regional and state.
The programme is implemented by the Graduate School of Occupational Safety at St Petersburg University. It is a unique platform to prepare specialists who master modern technologies in the field of occupational safety and health and man-made risk management.
The programme ‘Occupational Safety Management and Occupational Risks’ is underpinned by the concept of a human-oriented economy in the context of digital transformation of business and the requirements of the transition to sustainable development of the economy and society, which requires not only the digital restructuring of production and business processes, but also the safe and effective inclusion of people, ensuring economic growth in conditions of a responsible attitude towards the natural and social environment.
Students take part in the project activities and interdisciplinary research. Students are given the opportunity to do internships in clinics at St Petersburg University, government agencies, government and non-profit organisations, Russian and international companies, and industrial enterprises.
The programme is intended for those who have bachelor’s, specialist’s and master’s degrees in economics, management, sociology, law and other social science specialties who wish to gain a deeper understanding of the basics of labour management and occupational safety for career growth. It may be of interest to applicants with a degree in technical and IT spheres who are planning to acquire competencies in the field of economics and management; entrepreneurs; and top and middle managers, including human resources managers, who need to deepen their knowledge of occupational safety management and professional risks.
