St Petersburg University mathematician receives the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland", 2nd class

Nikolay Kuznetsov is Professor at St Petersburg University, one of the most highly cited researchers in the world according to the Web of Science, and Head of the Department of Applied Cybernetics at St Petersburg University. He has been awarded the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II class. The decree on awarding the state award was signed by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
Nikolay Kuznetsov was awarded the medal for merits in research and pedagogy, preparing high-calibre specialists, and many years of conscientious work.
Receiving the medal is largely due to the long-term work of the entire staff of our scientific school, our teachers, and the University. I am very pleased that my efforts in recent years to preserve and develop our scientific school at St Petersburg University enabled us to achieve results that have received wide recognition from scientists and high appreciation from our country.

‘This medal means the recognition of the importance of the scientific school for solving the urgent problems of our country in the development of high technology and preparation of high-calibre specialists,’ said Professor Nikolay Kuznetsov. ‘Along with the assessments of the expert scientific community that constantly accompany the work of scientists, this medal, that I have received for the first time, is an important part of the feedback and motivation to set goals for our team.’
Nikolay Kuznetsov is the author and co-author of over 400 publications; five monographs; and ten intellectual property certificates. In 2021, the scientist became a laureate of the Afraimovich Award for his work on the creation of the theory of hidden oscillations. He was also elected scientific secretary of the Scientific Council for Theory and Control Processes at the Department of Energy, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, and Control Processes of the Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2022, he entered the top 3 best mathematicians in Russia in the international rankings compiled by the academic platform Research.com. For the third time in a row, he confirmed his status as one of the most highly cited researchers in the world in the field of mathematics.
Since 2018, the Department of Applied Cybernetics under the leadership of Nikolay Kuznetsov has been regularly recognised as the leading scientific school (the Centre of Excellence) of the Russian Federation in the priority area of scientific and technological development "The transition to advanced digital, intelligent manufacturing technologies, robotic systems, new materials and methods of design, the creation systems for processing large amounts of data, machine learning, and artificial intelligence" in the field of mathematics and mechanics. This status is awarded based to the results of the competitive selection. It is awarded to the established scientific teams that are recognised for the high level of research in a well-recognised and wide scientific area. The teams that hold this status preserve the stability of traditions and maintain continuity of generations to prepare high-calibre scientists. The head of the leading scientific school should regularly prepare candidates of sciences and doctors of science. By doing so, they contribute to developing research groups to ensure the development of Russian science.
