St Petersburg University programmers take top prize in ICPC 2019 Northern Eurasia Finals

  • >

A St Petersburg University team has captured a gold medal in the regional stage of the Northern Eurasia Finals of ICPC 2019, and this qualifies them to go on to the World Finals, which will be held in June of next year.

In all, 310 teams from Russia, Belarus, Georgia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and other countries in Northern Eurasia took part in the semifinals of the Collegiate Programming World Championships.  They were given five hours in which they were to solve twelve problems, and they were judged not only on whether they had come up with the correct solutions but also on how long it took them to do so.

The St Petersburg University team composed of Dmitrii Belichenko, Nikita Bykov and Semen Petrov came in first, having solved ten of the twelve problems, and, what is more, in two cases coming up with the answers before anybody else.  They will now head to the ICPC 2020 Finals.  Two other teams from the University – LOUD Enough (Nikita Gaevoy, Ivan Bochkov and Vladislav Makarov) and The Quick Burgers (Daniil Fedorov, Stepan Filippov and Vladislav Milshin) came in tenth and twelfth, respectively, and were awarded bronze medals and first-degree diplomas.  Egor Gorbachev, Savelii Grigoryev and Mikhail Ivanov, who came in 29th in the overall ratings, will receive a second-degree diploma, and Ekaterina Fadeeva, Aleksandr Grebennikov and Andrei Zavarin, who finished in 63rd place, a third-degree diploma.

The ICPC 2019 Northern Eurasia Finals were held simultaneously in four cities – St Petersburg, Barnaul, Tbilisi and Almaty.  The World Finals will be held in Moscow from June 21-26, 2020, and the Northern Eurasia Region will be represented by sixteen teams – ten from Russia, three from Belarus and one each from Latvia, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
