St Petersburg University student takes part in the development of a smart tracker to simplify the work of nurses
Tatiana Petrova, a student of St Petersburg University, is a member of the interuniversity team "Medsled", which also includes ITMO students. They won the project competition ‘The Smart Medical Technologies’ at the St Petersburg International Health Forum.
The team has developed a device that looks like a fitness tracker. The tracker collects data and transfers it to the database. Then, data is processed, compared and stored. The gadget measures pulse, pressure, saturation and body temperature. The device can also track sleep phases. In case of an emergency, a patient can call health care workers using this gadget. Unlike an ordinary fitness tracker, the device developed by the students can transfer the indicators collected from the patient to the hospital information system.
The smart tracker will significantly simplify the work of nurses. It takes about two hours a day to make rounds in an inpatient department, collect data and enter them into the hospital information system in Russia.

The students say that the trackers created earlier hold a charge less, cost more and do not transmit data to the hospital information system. The tracker presented by the Medsled team consumes little energy and can work without recharging for more than a week. The cost of its production and sale can be reduced due to the fact that the device does not have a screen.
The team plans to apply for a student grant so that such devices will appear in Russian hospitals in future.
