St Petersburg University student takes two silvers at World Armwrestling Championships
Magomed Eldarov, a third-year student in the Petroleum Engineering bachelor’s programme, has won two silver medals at the World Armwrestling Championships in Romania.
The University student took second place among juniors under the age of 21 in the 70 kg weight class for both the left and the right arm. Magomed Eldarov is the gold medallist of the 3rd All-Russian open tournament ‘In memory of Aslanbek Enaldiev’, and the winner of the silver medals of the 2019 World Championship in wrestling with both hands and the All-Russian tournament ‘Baltic Cup’. Also, in 2019, the University student took third place in the overall standings of the Russian championship among juniors under 18. In April 2021, he was a silver medallist in the overall standings for the under 80 kg weight class at the All-Russian Baltic Wolf Armwrestling Tournament.
From 27 November through 2 December, the 42nd World Armwrestling Championships and the 23rd World Para-Armwrestling Championships were held in Bucharest, Romania. More than 1,500 athletes and fans from more than 50 countries were in attendance.
"I would like to congratulate Magomed Eldarov for being able to achieve such heights in sport at the same time that he combines his training with his studies. He regularly participates and emerges as a medal winner in All-Russian and international competitions," noted Dmitrii Korotchenkov, Acting Head of the St Petersburg University Sports Club. "Previously, his greatest achievement was two silver medals at the World Championships among juniors under the age of 18, so this is a major accomplishment for him. We wish Magomed continued success!"
