St Petersburg University student is a world champion in sport diving

Elizaveta Sadykhova has won two gold and two silver medals at the CMAS World Championships Tomsk 20/21. She is a first-year master’s student in Business Informatics at St Petersburg University.

She won the DIVING — 100 m Trial (women). First, an athlete must swim underwater using a scuba set and then swim on the surface using a snorkel. In DIVING — 50 m Lift Bag (women), the task is to lift a 4 kg weight from the bottom of a swimming pool at the distance of 50 metres from the starting mark to the surface using a lifting bag.

Additionally, she took the second place in DIVING — 100 m Octopus (pairs). Octopus is a backup (or safe second) breathing apparatus for emergency use when athletes run out of air. She also took the second place in DIVING — 100 m Obstacle Course (women).

An athlete must go through the obstacles and show basic diving skills, i.e. wearing and removing a mask, breathing from the alternative source of air, wearing and removing an equipment set.

The CMAS World Championships Tomsk 20/21 was held in Tomsk from 3 to 13 July 2021. It includes Finswimming World Championship 20/21, Sport Diving World Championship 20/21, and International University Finswimming Competition 20/21.

It brought together about 400 athletes from 30 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and North America. On the full medal table, the Russian team led the field with 37 medals, 15 out of which are gold.
