St Petersburg University is in the top 5 Russia’s universities for training IT specialists
St Petersburg University has won the Russoft 2024 award in the nomination "Federal leader." The Russoft 2024 award is given to top educational institutions that offer academic programmes in IT and is based on the results of the Russoft rankings, which includes 130 Russia’s universities.
The annual award of the Russian association of software companies "Russoft" is given to higher education institutions that are committed to proving education and training in IT to contribute to reducing a skills shortage in information technology. The winners are chosen based on the results of a survey of software companies. The questionnaire is a set of questions that put emphasis on what feedback employers are giving on the quality of training.
This year, more than 300 software development companies took part in the survey, and the final university rankings "Russoft 2024" included 130 higher education institutions in Russia. According to the results of the survey, St Petersburg University is a laureate of the award in the nomination "Federal leader," retained its position in the top 5 and the only classical university in the leading positions.
Today, St Petersburg University offers more than 500 degree programmes and over 800 non-degree programmes. It also offers more than 500 online courses, with 4,000,000 students worldwide. The academic programmes in information technology and software development are very popular among University applicants. Among these programmes are the following: "Applied Mathematics, Programming and Artificial Intelligence", "Applied Mathematics, Fundamental informatics and Programming", "Modern Programming", and "Artificial Intelligence and Data Science" to name just a few.
"St Petersburg University is the oldest university in Russia, which celebrates its 300th anniversary this year and is a leader in education and science. For many years, the University has been committed to providing high-quality education, including in IT, and solving real-world problems through an extensive network of partnerships and collaborations with IT companies in order to achieve technological sovereignty of our country," said Pavel Karpenko, Head of the Information Technology Service at St Petersburg University.
St Petersburg University has signed over 1,000 agreements with major Russia’s and international companies, educational and scientific organisations. Representatives of employers are members of academic programme councils and state examination committees. They also suggest topics for student graduation projects.
Together with partner companies, the University develops academic programmes. Recently, the University has opened the master’s programme "Artificial Intelligence and Data Science," developed jointly with Sber.
