St Petersburg University will accept applications for 28 clinical residency programmes in 2019

As occurred last year, citizens applying for training at St Petersburg University will be enrolled only according to the results of testing. The tasks for the testing are provided by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

Applicants must score at least 70 points to pass the entrance test successfully. Applicants should note that they have the right to participate in the competition in no more than two areas of study. These are listed in the application form in order of priority.

Applicants who have a higher medical and (or) pharmaceutical education are enrolled for training in clinical residency programmes according to the qualification requirements approved by Order No 707n of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation dated 8 October 2015.

The documents for participation in the competition for clinical residency programmes can be submitted from 1 July to 9 August 2019. There are three ways to submit the documents required for application:

  • electronically through applicants’ Personal Accounts
  • by general post
  • by the applicant in person to the Admissions Committee

According to the 2018 admission campaign, the number of applications for admission to study on both government-funded places and places on the fee-paying (contractual) basis has more than doubled compared with 2017. The most popular programmes were “Prosthetic Dentistry” and “Dental Surgery”. There were 70 and 60 people per place, respectively. The other programmes in demand were: “Anaesthesiology and Emergency Medicine” (50 people per place); and “Orthodontics” and “Neurology” (47 and 29 people per place, respectively).

St Petersburg University provides clinical residency students with the opportunity to have practical training at the University Medical Centre - the Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies. For example, last year, the surgeons of the clinic performed more than 5,000 successful endocrinological operations. The University Clinic is also top-ranked among the best medical institutions in St Petersburg.
