University Clinic: Preliminary results and opportunities for development

The council of the SPbU Pirogov Clinic of High Medical Technologies traditionally has announced the preliminary results and opportunities for development of the Clinic.
The staff of the Clinic was greeted by the SPbU Vice-Rector for Research Sergei Aplonov and SPbU Vice-Rector for methodological Support Marina Lavrikova.
Todays’ council is a historical moment: we have successfully incorporated the Clinic into the University where biomedicine is among the overarching priorities in research. We are planning to establish a classical medical clinic that has no equals in our country.

Incorporating the Clinic into the University allowed us to have a solid base for research and enabled our scientists to joint their efforts in science, says the Vice-Rector for Research Sergei Aplonov.
The Clinic has a considerable potential for research and it makes it vital for the University, says Marina Lavrikova. “The classical university is traditionally associated with the humanities and sciences. Our University has a potential in medicine as well. The university offers the educational programmes that prepare students in medicine. As we don’t enroll many students, we are trying to follow a personal approach to each of them, — said Marina Lavrikova. — SPbU also has programmes in dentistry and nursing, 28 programmes of residency training and aspiratura in medicine. Today the University is actively engaged in continuous medical education, and it explains why we have so many joint aims with the Clinic”.
The results for 2017 were announced by Director of the Clinic Iurii Fedotov. His report was rich in statistics that showed an increasing number of people who visited the Clinic, the average duration of treatment, and increasing trends in salaries of the staff. In 2017, the Clinic had a 9% increase in the number of people visiting the Clinic than in 2016.
All the trends are positive, and it means that our services are necessary for people and people trust us. Yet we have much to do and will do every effort to succeed.

The reports were also delivered by the staff of the Clinic. Deputy Director of the Clinic Dmitrii Shmatov told about what results the department of cardiology achieved and how it was re-structured. This success — cost savings and an increasing number of patients with complete healing — is a result of efficient management and using cutting-edge technologies.
Deputy Director Ilia Sleptsov announced the results of the endocrine department and shared their experience in making the Clinic popular among the medical practitioners in Russia. He also discussed the professional burnout in the endocrine surgery.
In the last report, Director of the Laboratory for 3D-Modelling and Prototyping Anastasia Fillipova told about the 3D modells, a new trend in medicine.
The success of the Clinic lies in the extensive expertise and efficient management.
