Programme description

Main areas of research 

  • Landscape structure, functioning, and dynamics 
  • Natural, socio-historical, socio-economic and technical-technological conditions, prerequisites and factors of production location 
  • Formation of settlement systems of network structures of various specialisation: social, economic, cultural, political and tourist and recreational structures
  • Territorial organisation of society, including its productive forces 
  • Regularities in the formation of water balance and water flow, sediment, chemical substances, and heat flow and their spatial and temporal variability under different natural and economic conditions 
  • Hydrological role of natural and anthropogenic factors, genesis of flow components, studies of physical and the stochastic nature of fluctuations in river water content at different spatial and temporal scales 
  • Dynamic processes (waves, eddies, currents, boundary layers) in the ocean, processes of water mass formation, their spatial and temporal structure, and hydrophysical fields of the World ocean 
  • Use of maps in science and practice, cartometry, mathematical and cartographical modelling, accuracy and reliability of map studies 
  • Natural environment and indicators of its change under the influence of natural processes and human economic activity (chemical and radioactive contamination of biota, soils, rocks, surface and subterranean waters), induced physical fields, and changes in the state of permafrost zone 
  • Development of new principles, methods, technical means and technologies of geodetic measurements to determine geometric and physical parameters of the Earth, its surface, objects, phenomena and processes on it, including for the production of ground topographic surveys
