Classical Philology and Ancient Greek and Roman Tradition in the World Culture
In English and Russian
Level of education Master
Type of instruction Full-time
Duration 2 years
The master’s programme "Classical Philology and Ancient Greek and Roman Tradition in the World Culture" is designed to study a set of academic disciplines covering the whole variety of texts in Ancient Greek and Latin. They are aimed at studying: these languages and literature; the monuments themselves that preserve these texts; as well as those aspects of culture and history of the Ancient world that require philological analysis of the sources. The programme encompasses: linguistics (including historical grammar, lexicology, and dialectology); the history of literature (including metrics, stylistics, and textual criticism); the reception of classical heritage in Western European and Russian literature; and the history of ideas in the world of classical antiquity. The programme is inextricably linked with other humanities disciplines insofar as they draw on textual analysis, i.e. political and legal history, and the history of religion, science, philosophy, and art.
