The bachelor’s programme ‘Balkan Studies and Comparative and Contrastive Linguistics’ is designed to train multi-skilled experts in Balkan studies, contact linguistics, translation and interpreting, and teaching Balkan languages. Students receive a rigorous general philological and in-depth linguistic education. It enables students to continue their studies in the chosen field, and advantageously solve specific professional tasks in a variety of activities.
Graduates have: an impressive command of several Balkan and Western European languages; and extensive knowledge of the languages and cultures of the Balkan region. An important part of the programme is the teaching of the Albanian language, the in-depth study of which has always been a distinctive feature of the St Petersburg school of Albanian and Balkan Studies.
