Programme description

The undergraduate degree programme «Languages and Culture of East Africa (Swahili) (with the additional qualification „Specialist the field of Translation“)» aims to provide students with a holistic understanding of the linguistic, cultural, political-economic, social, ethnic, confessional, literary and other characteristics of the countries of East Africa with a parallel and comprehensive study of Swahili, Kinyarwanda, and Arabic
The programme is designed for those who wish to build a successful career in various departments of Russian and international companies cooperating with the countries of East Africa
In addition, graduates of the programme will be awarded the qualification of «Specialist in the field of translation»

Students have access to unique electronic resources in Russian, Eastern and Western languages, as well as to the faculty branch of the Gorky Scientific Library. The Gorky Scientific Library has a collection of more than 300,000 volumes of scientific, educational and periodical literature, as well as fiction in all languages of the regions studied, a collection of old manuscripts and woodcuts, rare and unique books and lithographs
Graduates can apply to Master’s programmes at the SPbU Faculty of Oriental Studies and to other Russian and foreign universities
