The City on Screen: myth and reality
St Petersburg University Representative Office in Barcelona invites you to the online lecture "The City on Screen: myth and reality", dedicated to the image of Moscow and St Petersburg in Soviet and Russian cinema. The lecture will be given by Lyubov Bugaeva, Professor at the Department of History of Russian Literature at SPbU, author of the book Literature i rite de passage (2010) and more than 200 articles on the theory and history of literature and cinema.
Moscow and St Petersburg are incredibly rich in film locations. So many sights — temples, palaces, and bridges! These cities not only inspire actors and directors, but become full-fledged heroes of films themselves, creating a special atmosphere and setting the mood.
Urban space in film is both the visual component and the social space reflecting the historical context. It becomes part of the film’s mythological space, filled with stories and images unique to each film. In this lecture, Lyubov Bugaeva will talk about the most famous films shot in Moscow and St Petersburg and the mythology associated with these cities.
The meeting will be held online in Russian with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish.
