In an era of globalization, climate change, and new medical challenges, it is a vital skill to know the principles of infectious disease transmission and methods to control it. The lecture will help you explore the key aspects of epidemiology, a science that holds particular significance in today’s world.
Lecturer
Lidia Soprun is an Associate Professor at St Petersburg University (Department of Healthcare and Medical Law).
Professor Soprun will explain what the epidemic process is, how herd immunity is formed, and the role of vaccines in preventing infectious diseases. During the lecture, you will learn the basics of epidemiology and discover how to apply its principles in everyday life.
You will also learn how to interpret statistical data on disease incidence, distinguish real threats from media exaggerations, and make appropriate decisions about your health.
Special attention will be given to developing critical thinking when analysing medical information in the media and on social networks. During the lecture you will learn to identify unreliable sources, distinguish correlation from causation, and assess the real risks of development and spread of various diseases.
The lecture will be streamed online in Russian with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
