Let’s go! Space on modern screens

St Petersburg University and its Representative Office in Barcelona invite you to take part in an online lecture "Let’s go! Space on modern screens" devoted to Klim Shipenko’s movie "The Challenge". The lecture will be delivered by Liubov Bugaeva, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philology at St Petersburg University and the author of the book "Literature i rite de passage" (2010), about 200 studies and research articles.
"The Challenge" became the first full-length feature movie in the world which scenes were filmed in space by professional cinematographers. Premiere of the movie took place on 12 April 2023. The main role was played by Yulia Peresild, actress was selected out of three thousand applicants for the role.
Thoracic surgeon Zhenya Belyaeva (Yulia Peresild) has a month to prepare for a space flight to ISS to save an astronaut. She has to overcome her insecurities and fears, and also carry out the most difficult operation in the conditions of weightlessness on which the chances of an astronaut to return to Earth alive depend.
During our lecture we will also discuss space theme in the Russian cinematography and meaning of allusions to the "cosmic period" of Soviet history. Liubov Bugaeva will talk about why "real" part of the movie, related to ISS, overshadow main melodramatic plot and how interaction with space "atmosphere" was created.
The meeting will be held online in Russian with simultaneous interpreting into Spanish.
