Museum of the History of Physics and Mathematics
SPbU hosts weekly guided tours of the museum of the History of Physics and Mathematics.
The museum is located in Peterhof and contains an exhibition in physics, and an exhibition in mathematics, mechanics and astronomy.
Museum collections trace back to the beginning of 19th century — the time of establishment of the Physics Room and Room of Practical Mechanics at the St Petersburg Imperial University. The collections contain 19th century wooden mechanical models developed by SPbU mechanic Victor Franzen, and mechanisms designed by the academician Chebyshev, including the model of the Plantigrade machine, capable of imitating the animal gait.
The guided tour also introduces students to the main period of scientific development in mathematics, mechanics and physics:
- 3, 10, 17, 24 December at 12 pm
- 6, 13, 20, 27 December at 2 pm
Duration: 1 hour. Please bring a valid form of identification to enter the University campus.
