Museums of St Petersburg

St Petersburg is one of the most astonishing cities on our planet. It’s the city of culture, history, parks, palaces, and bridges that managed to amass over eight and a half thousand monuments, more than two hundred of which are museums. Every year, art connoisseurs from all over the world visit Russia’s northern capital to witness the treasures of the Hermitage, which houses one of the finest collections of global masterpieces.

Since its founding, St Petersburg has been the center of imperial life and a hub for talented people, so it’s no surprise that the city is one of the leaders in Europe in terms of the number of museums. The historic center of St. Petersburg is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, which in itself transforms it into a real open-air museum. In addition, St. Petersburg hosts museums catering to any taste and interest, and you may not even be aware of the existence of some of them. Artistic and educational, classical and modern, experimental and interactive. What these museums are and what their significance is for Russian and world culture will be discussed during our next meeting.

About the lecturer: Anastasia Romanovna Babaeva graduated from St Petersburg University with a degree in "English Language and Literature". She is a grantee of the international master’s program in the field of European studies EuroCulture at Deusto University (Bilbao, Spain). Since 2017, she has been working in the field of dubbing and film translation; since 2021, she has been teaching Spanish at the Faculty of International Relations at St Petersburg University (SPbU).

The meeting will be held online in Russian with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
