Petrography museum tours
The SPbU Petrography museum offers weekly guided tours where you can learn about the development of the science of petrology, the place of petrography among Earth sciences, and the scientists at St Petersburg University who laid the foundations for the Russian tradition of petrographic research.
Our museum collections showcase the diversity of Earth’s rocks, their characteristics, and the processes of their formation. You will see collections of igneous and volcanic rocks, including samples of solidified lava, volcanic bombs, and ash; among the metamorphic rock samples, you will find unique impactites (formed as a result of meteorite impacts) and much more.
You will also learn about the methods used to study rocks, their application in science and education, and discover the vast variety of stone used in the decor of palaces, monuments, bridges, and ordinary houses in St Petersburg.

Duration: 1 hour. No prior booking is required. Please bring a valid form of identification to enter the University campus.
