Scientists of Leningrad State University During the Great Patriotic War
St Petersburg State University will host a lecture ‘Scientists of Leningrad State University During the Great Patriotic War’.
The Great Patriotic War proved a severe trial for Leningrad State University, as for the entire nation. Over 2,500 students, postgraduate researchers, teaching staff and employees fought on the front lines, many of whom lost their lives there.
At the same time, the University maintained intensive scientific work: research was conducted across faculties, departments, and laboratories to fulfil defence contracts. Academics played an active role in the city’s defence—serving in anti-aircraft units, constructing fortifications, and carrying out scientific and organisational work under siege conditions.
Lecturer
