Summer Residences of St Petersburg
SPbU Representative Office in Spain invites you to join a lecture ‘Summer Residences of St Petersburg’, delivered by SPbU Professor Anastasia Babaeva.
The summer residences of St Petersburg stand as living witnesses to the bygone grandeur of imperial dynasties. Within these walls, historic decisions were made and intrigues spun, the worthy were rewarded and the disfavoured condemned to death, friendships were forged and dazzling balls were held in the splendid atmosphere.
Grand Peterhof, majestic Tsarskoye Selo, graceful Pavlovsk, mysterious Gatchina, and exquisite Oranienbaum — each and every one of these imperial summer residences boast its own unique fascination and unquestionable merit. Once serving as private havens and summer palaces for Russia’s imperial family and their distinguished guests, they now stand as protected reserve museums, welcoming visitors from around the world. To explore these residences is to immerse oneself in Russia’s history and cultural heritage — to discover unique collections of fine art, sculpture and artefacts, while wandering through breathtaking landscape gardens that represent the very pinnacle of horticultural artistry.
During our forthcoming lecture, we shall explore how Russia’s emperors lived and passed their leisure hours, while highlighting the essential sights to behold when visiting these celebrated summer palaces.
