Unknown Mendeleev. The life of a naval officer
This exhibition is dedicated to the life of Vladimir Mendeleev, naval officer, staff photographer on Tsesarevich Nicholas’ voyage to the East on the cruiser "Memory of Azov".
The exhibition project is about the life of Mendeleev’s eldest son Vladimir Mendeleev (2 January 1865 St Petersburg — 19 December 1898 St Petersburg).
The heart of the exhibition are letters and photographs − true stories told in the first person. The letters are a chance to take a look at the world and Russia in the late 19th century through the eyes of Vladimir Mendeleev. The intricate embroidery of the hand-written text reveals the author’s inner world, and the fates of those who changed their present and left a trace in our future are replayed before our eyes.
The short and bright life of Vladimir Mendeleev reflected not only the private life of the Mendeleev family, but also the spirit of the era, the history of Russia at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
