THE-2018 rankings: SPbU among the top universities globally
September 5, World University Rankings 2018: results announced. St Petersburg University has retained its position in the rankings showing a steady uprising tendency in the key indicators.
Published by the Times Higher Education since 2004, THE World University Rankings is one of the three world's leading university rankings. Each year, SPbU has been going from strength to strength, remaining its position as one of the Russia’s leading universities.
Importantly, SPbU is featured in the top 100 world’s leading universities in the Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings. The university’s reputation is based on the Academic Reputation Survey and Employer Survey.
It uses 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators, among them is international outlook (staff, students), international scholarship programmes, research, innovation investments, citation, learning environment, and others.
The new rankings have shown that there is a stable rise in the interest of international academic community to St Petersburg (International Outlook). For example, an indicator “international-to-domestic-staff ratio” shows that academic staff is willingly ready to work with SPbU. Since 2015, it has seen a rise of 22 %, with a rise of 13 % in the last year.
SPbU’s programmes are attracting more and more international students: an indicator “international-to-domestic-student ratio” has increased by 40 %. Finally, another international indicator has also stable tendency to rise: they calculate the proportion of a university’s total research journal publications that have at least one international co-author.

THE rankings are globally recognized and one of the most authoritative rankings in the world. The fact that it features SPbU is vital as it primarily concerns with the Anglo-Saxon education system.
