ARWU-2016: SPbU steadily climbs Academic Ranking of World Universities
August 15, ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities 2016 is out now! St Petersburg University placed second among Russian universities in the top 500 universities in the world.
SPbU steadily climbs Academic Ranking of World Universities. Since 2012, SPbU annually rose 10-12 places among the top universities in the world, thus improving its position up by 50 places.
Along with THE and QS, ARWU is the world’s most prestigious league table. Published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003, the ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities is based on transparent indicators and measures of academic performance, thus becoming one of the leading international league tables.
Universities are ranked by several indicators of academic or research performance, including papers published in leading journals and alumni and staff gaining recognition in academic community. Today, the University has built an extensive network and infrastructure to carry out research in various spheres. The University has successfully established Research Park, a unique science park in Russia, implemented a postdoc programme, set up a number of laboratories head by world’s leading researchers and compiled the very best digitised resources. All this is vital to SPbU’s continued success.
Importantly, Nature Index 2016 Rising Stars, which was published in June, has also praised a considerable growth in SPbU’s papers published in highly-cited journals and indexed in major citation indices. St Petersburg University was the only Russian university in the top-100 research institutions, as based on Nature Index data.
