Delegation of the Ministry of Education of Turkey visited SPbU

The delegation of the Ministry of Education of Turkey has visited SPbU, the event was held by Senior Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Extra-Curricular Affairs and Methodological Support Ekaterina Babeluk and Deputy Rector Sergei Andrushin.

Sergei Andrushin expressed his gratitude for coming and hope to cement ties with the Turkish universities. “Today our relationship with Turkey is gaining momentum, in particular in academic collaboration, — said Deputy Rector. — Obviously, our collaboration with the Ministry of Education will stimulate this development”.

This year, SPbU has enrolled 20 Turkish students, half of them on the master programmes, 6 of them on bachelor programmes, and 4 of them on post-graduate programmes.

We can assess Russia-Turkey relations by our entry results in 2017 in comparison with the previous years. The programmes that get the most students from Turkey are those on linguistics, management, psychology, and international relations, said Senior Vice-Rector.

Moreover, SPbU has signed an agreement with the Koc University: each year, the KOC University takes our students in management on academic exchange programmes.  We are particularly interested in joint exchange programmes and short-term internship abroad, said Senior Vice-Rector. She also suggested Turkish companies should become prospective employers for our students and graduates.

Effective collaboration with SPbU is a high priority with the government, said the head of the office for management and finance of the Ministry of Education of Turkey Khalil Doganai.

We are well aware that SPbU is a special university in academic community.

Today, about 75 thousands of Turkish people study abroad, and the Russian universities are becoming more and more popular among those who are willing to go on study abroad, said Khalil Doganai. Many international students are facing difficulties in accepting the documents, said the delegation. As a result, the University suggested signing a direct agreement on collaboration. We have such agreements with the Ministry of Education of China, while the Ministry of Education of Turkey with the UK and USA’s universities.

The agreement will make the entrance requirements easier and form grounds for new joint educational programmes.

As the University is entitled to set up its own rules and regulations, it can open new educational programmes on a regular basis.

One of the promising areas of collaboration is the humanities: international relations, political sciences, tourism, linguistics, as well as natural sciences and engineering: atomic physics, mining and exploitation of natural resources. Turkey expressed its interest and promised to start working out the agreement in the nearest future.
